Oh the fog!

categories Thoughts

While there is a lot of debate as to the causes of global climate change, and whether we as humans are able to alter its effects, there is no doubt the climate is changing, and not for the better.

This year has already seen one of the most prolonged cold spells, in southern California, I can remember since moving here 26 years ago, and it is definitely been windier than past years.

Then the last couple of mornings, the weather has been just perfect at the house, but about 8 miles down the coast, towards Huntington and Newport Beach’s, the fog rolls in, and the temperature drops about 10°F.

And now this morning, the fog has moved in big time at the house.  I can’t even imagine what it might be like along the coast.

This kind of weather, sure makes it hard deciding how to dress when going for a bike ride, or whether to ride at all, and the last thing I need in my life, at this time, are more decisions to make.

Oh well, I guess that’s what makes life so interesting.  You never know what the future might hold.

Is my body talking to me?

categories Cycling, Thoughts

After riding 50 miles yesterday morning, and then racing at Eldo in the evening (total 90 miles for the day), I am just a little sore this morning.

I had a terrible nights sleep, but I’m off to do another 50 miles this morning regardless.

I dare not ride considering how I felt the other day, and besides,

what doesn’t kill [me], only makes [me] stronger.

Tomorrow I can rest.  I have to go to work.

Saturday 6/14

categories Thoughts

As if Friday wasn’t bad enough, chasing Rocky up the first significant hills I’ve done in two weeks, Saturday comes along.

Of course we all know, that is the natural progression of days, i.e. Saturday comes after Friday, but somehow I wish we could have an Nonday, in between some of those days.

Again, as usual, I don’t want to ride, but Saturday is my favorite ride of the week, so I’m going to ride.  Plus I know I’ll feel even worse later on if I don’t.

It’s just that things aren’t getting easier

I am such a dedicated employee

categories Thoughts, Work

So much so, I actually went to work this morning, despite the fact my co-workers told me I didn’t need to, and in addition to the fact I have to come in tomorrow for an expected, but forgotten about customer visit. I was thinking I would tie up some loose ends, and then be able to devote all my attentions to the customer tomorrow.

I didn’t plan on riding this morning (opting instead to race this evening), so I wouldn’t miss out on anything by going to work.

Of course, I should have listened to my co-workers, as there was barely enough work to keep me busy for 30 minutes, and not bothered making that commute.  I could have easily waited until tomorrow, and completed everything while the customer was on a tour of the plant.

Fortunately traffic was unusually light, even though I left a half hour later than usual (5:30 AM instead of 5 AM), plus I managed to get a few necessary things accomplished, which I had been putting off for quite a while, and I was still able to leave around 9:45 AM to go home.

Anyways, as I was driving home, I was thinking how lucky I am to be employed where I am. There are very few other companies, and co-workers, that would treat any employee as well as I have been treated, since my diagnosis.

So in a bout of emotion, I thought I would take this opportunity to give a special thanks to Becky, Wayne, and even Bud, just to name 3.

Oh, how time flies!

categories Thoughts, Whatever

Having had my fill of news and election coverage this evening, I started channel surfing, and came across an old Star Trek: The Next Generation episode, on the SciFi channel.

After thoroughly enjoying the episode, I just so happen to check the credits, and discovered this particular episode first aired in 1989. (The entire series ran from 1987 through 1994.) [What might even be more amazing, is I actually remembered the episode.]

But 1989! That was almost 20 years ago. I was still in college then.

So I started doing a little more investigation, and discovered the original Star Trek series, with William Shatner, first aired in 1966, and ran for 4 seasons (1966 - 1969).

That was 40 years ago!

Since then there have been two more Star Trek series, in addition to Star Trek: The Next Generation (1987-2004), Star Trek: Voyager (1995-2001), and Star Trek: Enterprise (2001-2005).

Yes, I am aware of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (1993-1999), but I’m not counting that one, as I didn’t think there was anything newsworthy going on there.

Anywaze, what I want to know is why, after 18 years of almost uninterrupted coverage of news from Star Fleet, further news coverage has stopped?

Is this just another plot by the Bush administration to restrict the rights of Americans, and hide the truth about what is going on with Star Fleet?

Have we stopped funding Star Fleet operations in order to pay for the war in Iraq, and the Bush administration does not want us to know we will be unable to defend ourselves from an attack from the Klingons or Romulans?

Or are there terrorists in space, plotting against the US, which our politicians don’t want us to know about, for fear it may create panic?

I don’t know about the rest of you, but I sure want to know!
