No rest for the wicked Cycling
|
Well after racing at Eldorado Park last night, I was hoping for a relatively easy ride this morning.
The Wednesday ride can get a little fast, as we head south towards the coffee shop in Corona del Mar, depending on who’s there, but return trip home, is typically a very mellow ride along the beach bike path.
But today’s ride was unlike any other Wednesday. Not only were there more of us than usual (11), but more of the really fast riders were there as well, i.e. Brian, Brad, Guido (with a name like that you know he has to be fast), Scotty, and Cory (the 20 year old), so the ride along the beach was not to be.
The ride seemed more like a Thursday ride than a Wednesday ride.
Not only was the ride to Corona Del Mar faster than normal, but the ride back was even faster. At least it seemed faster, as I was not able to stay with the group the entire ride home.
I did manage to stay in untill about half way back, but at 32 mph, which is my top end on the flat (and we were on flat road), I was forced to drop off, somewhere between Goldenwest and Sea Point. I was so tired, I don’t even remember.
Anywaze, while I am disappointed in my performance, I do have a good excuse, having raced yesterday, among other things, at least I wasn’t the only one unable to keep up the pace. Plus it was a good workout, and now I don’t have to feel bad about not riding tomorrow.

Is my body talking to me? Cycling, Thoughts
|
After riding 50 miles yesterday morning, and then racing at Eldo in the evening (total 90 miles for the day), I am just a little sore this morning.
I had a terrible nights sleep, but I’m off to do another 50 miles this morning regardless.
I dare not ride considering how I felt the other day, and besides,
what doesn’t kill [me], only makes [me] stronger.
Tomorrow I can rest. I have to go to work.

Friday the 13th Anxietys, Cycling
|
Here it is Friday morning, and again I have committed to riding this morning, with Rocky this time (Edgar had a run in with a truck on Monday, and isn’t feeling too good), and I would really rather not.
But that always seems to be the case lately, so I guess I better just suck it up, and start getting ready.
At least this AM, it’s not my body telling me not to ride, it’s my mind.

Exploit accompli Cycling

That’s French for finally staying with the Thursday group, all the way through Bolsa Chica, Huntington Beach and down to Brookhurst Avenue, before breaking off to head to the coffee shop, in Corona Del Mar, with the rest of the coffee crew.
But before you start heaping huge amounts of adulations upon me, I have to admit I was aided by a relatively strong head wind, which I believe resulted in the stronger riders not being able to go quite as fast as normal.
Plus I had the added benefit of being able to position myself on the left side of the pack, away from the wind, something that I have not been able to easily accomplish in the past.
But even with those caveats, I was still pleased, and ready for next Thursday’s ride.
