Off to the gym, golfing and…..

categories Cycling, Golf, Thoughts

Well this morning, I’m off to the gym for a short treadmill and weight workout, instead of my normal bike ride.

I’m playing in a golf tournament today, and I have a 10:30 AM tee time, which doesn’t provide enough time to ride, shower and then get to the tournament without being totally rushed.

Besides I went for a hard ride to Turnbull Canyon yesterday in anticipation of this. I also plan on doing a hard ride tomorrow, so I can afford to skip a day, plus a short run and weight workout is a good change of pace.

As a final note, I don’t expect to be continuing this blog, after this post. It has become too difficult trying figure out which posts are more appropriate for this blog or for my Living wiht MCL blog, so I don’t see the point of this blog anymore.

When I have something to say or report, I will simply do it on my Living wiht MCL blog.

It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood

categories Cycling, Golf, Whatever

Spring is definitely in the air.

Got up, it was 58oF, and slightly overcast. It was a perfect day to take Edie’s car to be repaired, at Earl Schieb’s in Bellflower, and then go for a bike ride afterwards.

Then around noon, the sun came out, and the temperature soared to around 75oF. I went and hit some golf balls, then had a lesson, which assured me I am doing everything right, I just have to work on tempo and timing.

Once I get that under control, I’ll be ready to defend my title as the Long Beach Mens Senior Open Champion in May.

And finally the article I was interviewed for a month ago, was published today. You can read it here, in the Lifestyles section of ASAP, the AP’s new multimedia service.

I finally got My 15 minutes of fame!

A better start to today

categories Cycling, Thoughts

It was 57oF when I left the house for my morning bike ride. Didn’t even need long tights. It definitely looks like spring is rapidly approaching. And the wind never materialized as expected.

We had a slight tail wind, as we headed south along the coast, which made for nice comfortable ride to our first rest stop, around 16 miles from the start. The ride did get a little harder as we continued south for some hill climbing up Newport Coast Road followed by Spyglass hill.

I didn’t perform as I might have hoped, but I did do a hard ride yesterday, plus I rode my old bike, which doesn’t have quite the same feel, but I still beat 3 of the 9 riders up both hills.

All in all I was happy, and feeling good. Things definitely looking up!

A depressing start to the day

categories Cycling, Thoughts

depressed1.gifIt was a beautiful day, a little windy, as has been the case lately, but I nice morning for a bike ride.

Plus I had a good ride, that is until a crash in the first group in the Hammer Zone, resulted in the second group slowing down quite a bit for a period. Eventually it picked up, but it just wasn’t the same.

What was depressing, was none of the old gang showed up.

Actually Rene did show up, but because I was a little late getting to the start of the ride (I actually thought I was ahead of the group, but obviously wasn’t), and he rides with the first group, I wasn’t able to let him know I was here, to stop for coffee afterwards. I tried calling him, but he didn’t answer his phone.

Still neither Amy nor Naomi showed up either, so I ended up riding home by myself, and it just wasn’t the same.

The shoes were still comfortable though!
